Product Description:

The EL3351 is a 1-channel analog input terminal developed by Beckhoff. It is capable of accurately measuring strain gauges or load cells using full-bridge resistor technology. The product enables direct connection of a resistor bridge for industrial automation applications and digitizes both the bridge voltage and the reference voltage with 16-bit precision. It then sends the data via EtherCAT to a supervisory controller to be processed further.

The EL3351 analog input terminal's conversion time can be configured to range from 2.5 ms to 800 ms, with 82 ms as the default. It can also measure bridge voltages within a range of ±20 mV. There is more than 1 MΩ of internal resistance for the bridge voltage input, and the terminal has a built-in 5 V DC bridge supply. An external source of up to ±12 V can also be used. It usually takes 170 mA of power from the E-bus. Multiplexed sampling between the bridge voltage and the reference voltage is possible with this product, and the ground reference is differentiable. With the usual 50 Hz filter, the measuring error is less than ±0.1%, and the resolution is 16 bits with 32 bits of data. EMC protection and emission meet EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4 standards. The terminal can work in places with up to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing) and temperatures between 0 °C and +55 °C.

According to EN 60715 standards, the EL3351 analog input terminal can be fixed on a 35 mm DIN rail and is about 15 mm thick, 100 mm wide, and 70 mm tall. It has a weight of about 60 grams. The standard voltage's input filter cutoff frequency is 10 kHz, and crosstalk attenuation is more than 60 dB.

Frequently Asked Questions about EL3351:

Q: How does EL3351 maintain measuring error below ±0.1%?

A: It uses a 50 Hz default filter and precise 16-bit ADC conversion. This combination reduces noise and enhances accuracy.

Q: Why is the internal resistance of the Uᴅ input greater than 1 MΩ?

A: High input resistance prevents loading the sensor circuit. It maintains signal integrity from sensitive strain gauges.

Q: Does EL3351 comply with EMC standards?

A: Yes, it meets EN 61000-6-2 immunity and EN 61000-6-4 emission standards. This ensures stable operation in noisy environments.

Q: How does the 10 kHz cutoff frequency for the Uʀᴇꜰ input filter affect performance?

A: It filters high-frequency noise from the reference voltage. This improves signal stability and measurement accuracy.

Q: Why is the EL3351 designed for 35 mm DIN rail mounting?

A: DIN rail mounting allows easy integration into control cabinets. It follows EN 60715 for standardized installation.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The EL3351 by Beckhoff delivers precise strain gauge measurement with a 16-bit resolution and multiplexed sampling between UR and URF. It ensures low measuring error below ±0.1% and high crosstalk attenuation over 60 dB. The 35 mm DIN rail mounting and 170 mA current consumption make it a compact and efficient choice.’’
