The EL3314-0010 is a thermocouple input module manufactured by Beckhoff and belongs to the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Installed alongside digital and analog I/O, this terminal conditions low-level sensor voltages and transmits temperature values to EtherCAT masters. Its four galvanically isolated channels allow distributed measurement close to the process so that control loops in heating, cooling, or oven systems receive precise data without long analog runs. That arrangement helps reduce noise pickup by moving the measurement interface closer to the sensing point and sending converted values over the fieldbus instead of extending sensitive analog wiring. It occupies a single 12 mm slot on a DIN rail, minimizing panel space in modular machines.

Each of the four inputs accepts thermocouple signals over a 2-wire connection scheme. The analog front end spans up to 78 mV and is digitized with an internal 24-bit converter. This resolution works with a base code width of 10 nV/digit, enabling detection of small thermal changes. The differential stage withstands surges up to ±15 V, and an analog filter with a 1 kHz cutoff dampens radio-frequency noise before conversion. With a preset sampling period of 110 ms, the terminal supports slow to medium dynamic processes while keeping processing load modest. Gain deviation remains below 400 ppm, and offset error stays within ±15 µV, so readings remain stable across the measuring span.

Galvanic separation between input circuitry and the EtherCAT bus is rated at 500 V, protecting upstream controllers from ground loops and high common-mode voltages. The integrated cold-junction sensor contributes a total error of ±1.5 °C with a temperature coefficient below 25 mK/K, supporting stable readings over ambient changes. The module draws 200 mA from the E-bus and can be installed on segments up to 30 m from the coupler without signal repeaters. Input terminals tolerate up to ±50 V from the thermocouple to protective earth, which supports reliable use in industrial electrical environments where stray potentials may be present.
