Product Description:
The EL3202-0000 is a temperature measurement terminal produced by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. By integrating directly on the EtherCAT I/O level, it digitizes resistance signals from industrial RTD sensors and forwards the data to the control system for closed-loop temperature regulation and monitoring tasks. The housing measures 12 × 100 × 68 mm, allowing dense installation on DIN rails inside control cabinets.
The converter performs analog-to-digital conversion with a Delta-Sigma method and delivers a native 16 bit result for each channel. The terminal supports 2-/3-wire sensor wiring, which helps compensate for lead resistance on short or moderate cable runs. An enclosure rating of IP20 limits the module to dry environments but eases heat dissipation without extra sealing. A single-ended ground reference simplifies system grounding because each input shares a common supply return. Internally, all samples are time-interleaved through multiplex acquisition, so both channels are updated without simultaneous sampling conflicts. A nonvolatile CoE data area is present, allowing calibration or scaling parameters to remain stored after power is removed.
Field wiring is completed on the front connector, and continuous current is supplied to the sensors by the module's own excitation source. The temperature value transmitted to the controller is quantized in steps of 0.1 °C per digit, which meets the resolution needs of most process heaters and HVAC loops. Each scan places two double-word results, one for every input, into the process image as 2 × 32 bit RTD input. Power for the electronics is drawn exclusively from the EtherCAT backplane via the E-bus, while the downstream supply contacts can pass up to 10 A for adjacent terminals.
