Product Description:
The EL3182 is one of Beckhoff’s most stellar dual-channel analog input terminals, supporting HART communication protocol. Also known as the Highway Addressable Remote Transducer protocol, HART allows two-way communication within an analog range of 4 to 20 mA. As a compact electrical module, the EL3182 can be used for current loop inputs to achieve reliable system monitoring and control. Similar to other EtherCAT terminals by Beckhoff, the EL3182 provides a 0 V power contact for establishing the reference potential for its analog inputs. During operation, the power contacts of this device can utilize a feed terminal with isolation.
The EL3182 is best known for its single-ended design, utilizing only two wires for establishing complete connection. For single-ended terminals, one wire acts as the signal wire while the other one connects directly to the ground. The EL3182 has a maximum dielectric strength of 30 V. For small modules such as analog terminals, a dielectric strength of 30 V implies a higher insulation rating before achieving material breakdown. Similar to other EtherCAT modules, this device uses the E-bus to power its electronics. During nameplate operation, the E-bus can consume a typical input current of 130 mA. For a short period of time, this unit can safely operate at an extended range of up to 107% of its nominal rating.
The EL3182 utilizes HART version 7 with a signal current range of 4 to 20 mA. It has a resolution of 16 bits and a bit width of 8 bytes in its process image. At any point in time, the EL3182 can only withstand a maximum output current of 150 mA per connector. Operating this device beyond the maximum output current for extended periods can lead to irreversible channel damage.
