Product Description:

The EL3174-0002 analog input terminal is produced by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It is a measurement module that digitizes differential voltage or current signals and passes them to the fieldbus controller. Used in industrial automation, it lets an EtherCAT system record synchronous analog values required for coordinated motion control, condition monitoring, and process regulation. The module installs directly beside other terminals and draws its operating power from the internal E-bus without separate wiring.

Its SAR converter design supports simultaneous sampling, so all channels share the same time base. The terminal offers 4 analog inputs that are digitized with 16-bit resolution, and the conversion time remains below 1 µs to align with the Distributed Clocks feature that synchronizes channel updates across the network. A 2,500 V DC isolation voltage separates the electronics from field wiring, while differential grounding helps minimize common-mode noise. Voltage paths present an input resistance above 200 kΩ, current paths show 85 Ω typical, and 140 mA of typical E-bus current powers the circuitry without external supply lines. Measurement accuracy stays within ±0.2 % of full scale at 25 °C, and a 5 kHz input filter helps limit aliasing.

The housing measures 15 × 100 × 70 mm, so it fits the standard terminal profile while leaving space for dense I/O clusters. During bus exchange, the device contributes a 16-byte process image input, enabling controllers to read all four channels and status bits in a single cycle. EtherCAT update times can be as low as 175 µs, making the terminal suitable for high-speed loops. If wiring faults occur, an internal circuit limits sensor current to 50 mA; this overcurrent cutoff protects transducers without reducing measurement availability.
