Product Description:

The EL3152-0017 is a two-channel analog input terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It attaches directly to an EtherCAT I/O node and converts voltage signals from field devices into digital words that a controller can process. By integrating conversion and bus coupling in a 12 mm module, the unit helps machine builders gather precise process data without external signal conditioning hardware. Because it shares the E-Bus backplane for both power and communication, the terminal simplifies cabinet wiring in compact automation cells.

The module accepts 2 single-ended voltage channels and assigns each to a dedicated 16-bit converter. With a native resolution of 16 bit, small signal variations are captured for accurate closed-loop control. An input filter set to 5 kHz suppresses aliasing while allowing most industrial sensor bandwidths to pass. Power for the measuring circuitry is drawn through the E-Bus, and typical consumption is 170 mA, so no extra feed terminal is required. Dielectric isolation of 30 V between the field and logic sides protects downstream electronics from transient overvoltage. Internally, the signal path presents 85 Ω plus diode drop, which limits current in fault situations. Ground referencing is single-ended, and the terminal participates in distributed clocks for deterministic timestamping.

Samples from both inputs are taken simultaneously, preventing phase error when correlating two related process variables. Timestamp alignment is aided by a clock jitter of less than 1 µs, which supports high-speed synchronization across large EtherCAT networks. Each cycle, the device delivers a process image of 2 x 16 bit + 2 x 8 bit, combining raw data and status flags for the PLC. The housing carries an IP20 rating, indicating finger-safe terminals for installation inside control enclosures. Additional support for nocoestorage allows calibration or scaling parameters to be stored for automatic use at startup.
