Product Description:
The EL3112 two-channel analog input terminal is manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Mounted next to other I/O slices, the module converts low-level sensor voltages into network data for the EtherCAT bus, providing real-time acquisition of process variables in distributed automation systems. It is intended for differential signal sources such as pressure transmitters, flow sensors, or other instrumentation that generates ±10 V ranges, and it supplies controllers with the precise measurements required for closed-loop regulation.
The terminal offers 2 differential input channels that are sampled simultaneously, preventing phase errors between signals that must be compared in real time. Each channel is digitized with 16-bit resolution; the resulting input payload occupies 2 × 16 bit while an additional 2 × 8 bit segment carries status flags such as over-range or wire-break. Clock synchronization is maintained by the Distributed Clocks feature, giving a timing accuracy better than < 1 µs, and the built-in analog filter limits the bandwidth to 5 kHz to suppress high-frequency noise. Electrical separation of 500 V isolates the field inputs from the backplane supply, and the differential ground reference keeps common-mode disturbances within the specified 10 V limit. Configuration data can be stored locally through the nocoestorage function, and the terminal can be installed in any orientation without affecting performance.
Mechanical integration follows the standard DIN rail profile; the housing clips onto a 35 mm rail and occupies a width of just 12 mm, conserving cabinet space when numerous EtherCAT slices are assembled. The enclosure meets the IP20 protection class, so live parts remain finger-safe inside closed control panels. LED channel indicators on the faceplate provide at-a-glance confirmation of operating state and error conditions during setup and operation.
