Beckhoff's EL3064-0018 belongs to the EL EtherCAT Terminals series and functions as a four-channel voltage acquisition module for distributed I/O stations. It conditions single-ended sensor signals and delivers them to the EtherCAT network so that PLCs can perform fast closed-loop control, logging, and diagnostics inside industrial machinery. This format lets one terminal gather multiple analog signals in a compact I/O assembly without requiring a separate standalone converter. Because the power contacts are connected through, the upstream supply passes to adjacent terminals without extra wiring.

The terminal provides 4 analog inputs that are successively scanned by a multiplex sampler, and each channel is updated every 0.625 ms for deterministic response in high-speed processes. Incoming voltages from 0 to +10 V are digitized with a resolution of 12 bits, allowing a smallest step of roughly 2.44 mV. High-impedance measuring circuitry rated at >130 kΩ minimizes loading on delicate transducers. That behavior is useful when the source signal comes from measurement circuits that should not be heavily loaded by the input stage. The module also rejects out-of-band noise through an internal low-pass filter, and signal pairs are routed over 2-wire connectors that share a common ground reference.

Channel data are packed as 16 bits per value, while a parallel 2-byte status word flags overrange and error events for every scan. This allows the controller to evaluate both the measured value and the channel condition within the same process cycle. The maximum dielectric strength between the field side and logic domain is 30 V Max., which protects downstream electronics from moderate potential differences. An input filter cutoff of 1 kHz balances noise suppression with real-time fidelity, and the housing carries an IP20 rating for installation inside control cabinets. The design does not use distributed clocks because absolute nanosecond-level synchronization is not required for single-ended measurements.
