Product Description:
The EL3061 is a single-channel analog input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Integrated into an EtherCAT I/O strand, it digitizes a voltage signal and places the measured value in the controller’s process image, allowing automation systems to acquire field-level sensor data without separate remote racks. As part of an IP20 terminal block family, the unit mounts directly on a 35 mm DIN rail and draws power for its control logic from the neighboring bus coupler through the internal E-Bus. This arrangement allows the terminal to operate as part of a modular I/O assembly without requiring an independent logic supply.
The terminal converts the external signal with a 12-bit resolution that is expanded to a 16-bit format for uniform data handling in the PLC. Each measurement is updated after a 0.625 ms conversion time. Incoming noise is attenuated by a 1 kHz input filter cutoff, so higher-frequency components are rejected before quantization. Status and value information occupy a fixed 2-byte status field plus a 2-byte value field in the process image, simplifying deterministic data mapping. Electrical insulation between the field wiring and logic has a 30 V dielectric strength, providing basic protection against potential differences. The fixed process-image allocation also gives the controller a consistent location for reading channel data and diagnostic information during each communication cycle.
The housing has an IP20 ingress protection rating, making the module suitable for enclosed control cabinets where protection against finger contact is required. Its logic electronics receive power exclusively through the E-Bus supply, so a separate 24 V logic feed is unnecessary. Field wiring uses a single-ended reference, and the terminal follows a simultaneous sampling scheme so its single available channel is captured without multiplexing delays. The terminal snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and supports installation in any orientation. NoCoE storage retains parameter settings in nonvolatile memory, while cycle timing is managed by the upstream EtherCAT master because the terminal does not use distributed clocks. Its compact terminal-block design also allows the analog channel to be installed beside other EtherCAT terminals on the same rail and internal communication bus.
