Product Description:

The EL2911-2200 is a safety I/O terminal manufactured by Beckhoff in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It is intended for use inside distributed automation panels where space is limited, providing a direct EtherCAT interface to connect safety sensors and actuators. The terminal offers four safe input channels and one safe output, allowing emergency stop buttons, safety mats, or interlock switches to be wired on the same DIN-rail segment as standard process I/O.

Its housing measures 24 x 100 x 68 mm, so only a single 24 mm slot is consumed on the rail. The internal safe clock can drive downstream logic with up to 12 mA of current, while the input side is transferred toward the controller as a 6-byte image, giving bit allocation for each channel. Electrical separation against the back-plane is verified by a test voltage of 500 V DC; however, there is no galvanic separation between the channels themselves, and the module does not carry integrated TwinSAFE logic. A direct connection to the EtherCAT E-bus is still protected because isolation to that bus is present. The unit accepts 4 inputs that can each monitor potential-free contacts and provides 1 output capable of switching safety contactors or power relays.

The output image is likewise mapped to 6 bytes on the E-bus, permitting status feedback for diagnostics. Supply to the terminal follows the PELV scheme and must be 24 V DC, delivered through neighboring power feed modules. When switched, the single safe output can conduct up to 10 A, so power to contactor coils or valve solenoids can be interrupted. Functional integrity aligns with safety category EN ISO 13849-1 at level PL e, enabling the terminal to participate in the highest machine-safety architectures. The front enclosure meets an IP20 ingress rating, suited for installation inside control cabinets with controlled environments.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The EL2911-2200 is a Beckhoff EtherCAT safety output terminal with 4 inputs and 1 output. A 24 V DC PELV supply and 10 A max safe output current make the device well suited for controlled safety switching in automated equipment. PL e performance is a standout advantage for high-integrity safety architectures.’’
