The EL2904 terminal is produced by Beckhoff as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It is a four-channel safety output module intended for integration in decentralized I/O stations where it switches 24 V DC loads on command from a safety controller. Within an automation line, the unit forms the interface between controller logic and field devices that require controlled power removal during emergency stops or diagnostics. This role makes it suitable for safety circuits that must shut off actuators or interposing devices in a monitored and repeatable way.
Each of the four solid-state channels operates from a control supply of 24 V DC. The permissible load range spans from 20 mA up to 0.5 A per channel, allowing the terminal to drive contactors, indicator lamps, or relays that fall into utilization category DC-13. Connection is handled through one- or two-wire spring clamps, so wiring for single or redundant loops is possible. With overvoltage category II isolation, the module keeps transient events on the load side from feeding back into the EtherCAT segment.
