The Beckhoff EL2808-0000 terminal which falls under the series of EL EtherCAT Terminal is used as an 8-channel digital output interface that drives ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads in industrial automation. The voltage supply to the device is 24 V DC nominal (with acceptable range of -15% to +20%) and as embedded features includes a reverse do not allow the short circuit to take place. Thus, the device can work in safe conditions without risk of failure.

Output channels are rated for a maximum of 0.5 A each, and have short circuit protection as well. When exceptionally severe short-circuit conditions exist, the current is restrained to <2 A to prevent damage to the terminal and any connected device. In addition, less than 150 mJ breaking energy for each channel improves DCP protection when the load is removed. The device has switching time of 60 µs (TON) and 300 µs (TOFF), hence EL2808-0000 is perfect for fast and accurate control of actuators and loads.

The wiring becomes less complicated thanks to the 2-wire connection technology. The terminal draws 110 mA from the E-bus, and 15 mA plus the load from power contacts. It is integrated into the process image whose bit width corresponds to 8 outputs and can be interfaced easily to control systems based on EtherCAT. This terminal is designed for harsh environmental conditions and complies with vibration and shock resistance standard EN 60068-2-6 and EN 60068-2-27 respectively. It has a working temperature range of -25°C to +60°C and for storage -40°C. Its small size also means light weight (65 g) making it suitable for mounting on 35 mm DIN rails.
