Product Description:
The EL2784 EtherCAT Terminal developed by Beckhoff Automation is a compact digital output module designed for industrial control systems. Beckhoff Automation specializes in PC-based automation solutions and EtherCAT technology. Four solid-state relay outputs are provided in the module for AC and DC voltage switching applications.
The EL2784 EtherCAT Terminal offers 2 wire connection technology with spring force terminals for secure and tool free wiring. The four outputs act as make contact, switching resistive and slightly inductive loads up to 30 V AC/DC and purely resistive loads up to 48 V DC. Outputs are realized with high performance MOSFET transistors having low on resistance, with switching times of 1.8 ms for switching on and 30 ms for switching off. Each channel can pass a continuous current of 2 A, and peak current of 5 A for 100 ms and less than 50 A for 10 ms. Operational status can be diagnosed by diagnostic LEDs per channel for quick fault detection. This 500 V rating of electrical isolation is designed to provide safe operation of the system between E-bus and field potential. The EL2784 EtherCAT Terminal is 140 mA E-bus consumer and is installed on a 35 mm DIN rail. The compact housing is 12mm wide to fit in control cabinets.
The EL2784 EtherCAT Terminal is temperature rated from -25°C to +60°C and can be stored between -40°C and +85°C. Relative humidity of up to 95% will not condense on it. The module is EMC immunity and emission compliant according to EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4, and meets vibration and shock resistance standards EN 60068-2-6 and EN 60068-2-27. To meet the international requirements of safety and quality, the EL2784 has CE, UL and DNV GL approvals.
Frequently Asked Questions about EL2784:
Q: How does the spring force terminal technology benefit installation?
A: Spring force terminals provide secure, tool-free wiring connections that resist vibration and thermal cycling. This minimizes maintenance and improves installation speed in automation systems.
Q: What is the function of per-channel diagnostic LEDs in EL2784 EtherCAT Terminal?
A: Diagnostic LEDs help visually identify the operational status and fault conditions of each output. This allows for quick troubleshooting and reduces system downtime.
Q: How does the compact 12 mm housing of EL2784 contribute to system design?
A: The slim 12 mm profile reduces cabinet space usage, enabling higher channel density in control panels. This is crucial in space-constrained automation setups.
Q: How does the EL2784 maintain output integrity under inductive loads?
A: The EL2784 is designed to handle slightly inductive loads using suppression techniques and MOSFET-based design. This prevents arcing and ensures long-term output reliability.
Q: What advantage does the 100 ms 5 A peak current capability offer in EL2784?
A: The 5 A peak current support allows the EL2784 to handle inrush currents from capacitive or motor loads without tripping. This prevents false faults during startup sequences.
