Product Description:
The EL2624 is a relay-output I/O terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It bridges an EtherCAT fieldbus segment to four independent electromechanical contacts so that controllers can switch external loads directly. By integrating relays into the bus node, the module eliminates separate interposing hardware and provides galvanic isolation between the low-voltage logic on the E-Bus and field circuits that demand higher voltage switching in industrial automation. This arrangement is useful for switching lamps, contactor coils, solenoids, and other discrete loads that require direct on and off control from the automation system.
Each channel is rated for a nominal switching level of 125 V AC/30 V DC and can carry an ohmic load current of 0.5 A AC/2 A DC per channel. The output bank is organized as 4 × Make Contacts, giving straightforward normally open functionality suited to resistive loads. For supply distribution, the terminal passes the L and N power conductors internally, and these power contacts are rated for 10 A so downstream terminals can share the same feed without extra wiring. The bus interface maps the four relay states into the process image with a width of 4 output bits, while the internal electronics draw their operating power exclusively from the E-Bus. Environmental ingress protection is limited to IP20, which aligns with use inside control enclosures. Because the relay outputs are electrically separate from the bus electronics, the terminal can connect control logic to field-side circuits without requiring additional isolation components.
Service life aligns with industrial duty cycles: the specified electrical endurance is 2 × 105 cycles (1 A/30 V DC), and the relay mechanics are rated for 1 × 108 cycles irrespective of load. Very small sensing currents down to 10 µA at 10 mV DC can still be switched, allowing the same channel to handle diagnostic or signaling tasks when required. A housing molded from polycarbonate provides insulation and a compact 12 mm profile, and installation is by snap-fit onto a 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) to integrate with standard terminal rows. The slim housing also helps preserve cabinet space when many I/O points are grouped in a single terminal strip.
