The EL2622-0000 is a relay output terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Designed for control cabinets, the unit inserts directly onto the DIN-rail bus and provides electrical isolation between field circuits and the EtherCAT backbone. Its purpose in industrial automation is to switch mains-level or low-voltage actuators under PLC command without transferring dangerous potentials to upstream electronics.

Each channel uses a relay output stage with potential-free make contacts, so the field side remains galvanically separated from the logic side. The terminal is rated for a nominal supply of 230 V AC / 30 V DC, allowing direct switching of power or control circuits. For purely resistive equipment, it can carry up to 5 A AC/DC per channel, while inductive devices such as solenoids are limited to 2 A AC/DC per channel to reduce contact arcing. The housing is rated IP20, which helps prevent accidental finger contact while permitting natural convection. Supported load categories include ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads, giving flexibility when different output types are used within the same node.

The relay mechanics are specified for a minimum of 1 x 10⁵ @ 5 A / 30 V DC electrical switching operations and reach 2 x 10⁷ mechanical operations when operated without load, providing long service life in cycling applications. Physical size stays compact at 12 x 100 x 68 mm, matching the 12 mm width common to EtherCAT slice I/O. The terminal provides 2 x make contacts, and the internal design omits power feed-through, so the power contacts are not passed through to adjacent terminals. The module can switch electronic ballasts up to 4 x 58 W and will still operate with signals as small as 10 mA at 5 V DC, making it suitable for both lighting circuits and sensitive control relays.
