The EL2622 is a two-channel relay output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and links directly to the EtherCAT backplane, giving a controller networked access to two potential-free make contacts. Within an automation panel, the unit switches mains or low-voltage loads such as valve coils, contactors, or signal lamps while keeping the bus electronics electrically isolated from the load side.

Its rated supply is 230 V AC/30 V DC, so the same terminal can handle building mains or control voltages without extra interposing relays. For purely resistive loads, each channel carries up to 5 A AC/DC per channel; for inductive consumers, the limit is 2 A AC/DC per channel to curb switch-off transients. A dielectric strength of 500 V separates the contact set from the logic side, and the contacts remain floating relative to the system ground. The enclosure meets IP20, restricting use to closed cabinets with no direct liquid exposure.

The contacts are rated for an electrical life of 1 x 10^5 cycles at 5 A/30 V DC, so typical duty switching can proceed for years before maintenance is required. Mechanically, the relay armature survives about 2 x 10^7 cycles when operated without load. Lighting circuits can be driven up to 4 x 58 W per channel, covering common fluorescent fixtures. A footprint of 12 x 100 x 68 mm allows dense mounting while leaving adjacent terminals easy to reach during wiring. The minimum permitted load is 10 mA at 5 V DC, guaranteeing reliable contact wetting. Because there is no power contact pass-through, supply conductors must be bridged externally. The device maps two bits into the process image, directly reflecting its dual outputs.
