Product Description:

The EL2535-0050 terminal is produced by Beckhoff as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Classified as a PWM output module, it installs on a standard DIN rail segment to furnish finely modulated voltage waveforms for small DC loads and valve coils, allowing decentralized actuation over the EtherCAT fieldbus. Within an automation cell, the unit converts numerical setpoints from the controller into pulse-width-modulated signals so that drives, proportional regulators, or lighting stages can be energized without separate motion amplifiers.

Two independent output stages are provided, each with push-pull PWM outputs. Every channel can source up to 50 mA, which is sufficient for pilot duty on transistors or for directly driving LEDs and miniature relays. The carrier is fixed at 30 kHz; this high switching rate minimizes audible noise and gives the terminal an effective resolution of 10-bit, so duty cycles are adjustable in 0.1% steps. Logic and load circuits share a common supply of 24 V DC. The logic voltage is introduced on the EtherCAT backplane, while the output stage draws the same potential through the integrated power contacts. With an output process image of 2 × 16-bit Control and 2 × 16-bit Value per cycle, the master can update duty cycles cyclically without additional handshaking.

For installation, the terminal snaps onto a 35 mm mounting rail and receives its electronics power via the E-bus, so no separate wiring is required for the internal microcontroller. Two digital inputs are available and deliver status feedback to the PLC as a 2 × 16-bit status word, enabling synchronized acknowledgment of field signals alongside the output data stream. Protection is limited to IP20, which is suitable for enclosed cabinets, and reverse polarity protection prevents damage if the supply line is connected incorrectly.
