The EL2252-0000 is a two-channel digital output terminal from Beckhoff in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The module clicks onto a 35 mm DIN rail and connects directly to the EtherCAT E-bus. In automated machinery, it converts controller commands into 24 V switching signals for valves, relays, and indicator lamps, enabling deterministic actuation without separate driver boards. Because it mounts directly in an EtherCAT terminal stack, output functions can be placed close to field devices and wiring paths can be kept short.

The terminal provides 2 galvanically separated outputs that deliver a rated signal of 24 VDC. Each channel can source up to 0.5 A. An internal Push-Pull output stage supports both sourcing and sinking connections, which gives added flexibility when matching field devices. High-speed drivers reach a switching time of < 1 µs, so edge delays remain minimal when the PLC issues pulse patterns. During operation, the module draws 130 mA from the E-bus and 30 mA plus load current from the field supply, while its process image of 17 bytes plus 4 bits helps keep controller memory use compact. The housing fits the 35 mm rail and carries an IP20 protection class for installation in closed electrical enclosures. A selectable high-resistance mode also permits diagnostic checks without energizing connected wiring.

For coordinated multi-axis machines, the terminal aligns its outputs to an EtherCAT distributed clock with a sync accuracy of < 1 µs. When advanced profiling is active, the module adds a hardware time stamp whose resolution is 10 ns, enabling deterministic edge placement for on-the-fly cutting or inspection triggers. The output stage supports Ohmic, Inductive, Lamp Load factory settings, so the terminal can switch coils, resistive loads, or filament lamps without separate conditioners. This timing behavior is useful in equipment where several motion functions and switching events must stay closely synchronized during continuous operation.
