Product Description:
The EL2084 is a digital output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It interfaces low-voltage actuators such as solenoid valves, contactors, and indicator lamps with an EtherCAT network, translating logic states from the controller into field-level switching commands. By occupying a single I/O slice on a DIN rail, the unit allows discrete outputs to be distributed directly next to sensors and loads, reducing cabinet wiring and simplifying modular automation layouts.
Its electronics are powered exclusively through the EtherCAT E-Bus, so no separate logic supply has to be wired. The terminal delivers a nominal output of 24 VDC, and each channel can source up to 0.5 A to resistive or inductive devices. Switching is performed on the negative side by a 0 V ground-switching stage that incorporates semiconductor drivers and integrated short-circuit protection. The terminal has an IP20 rating, making it suitable for protected installation inside a control cabinet. Diagnostic feedback is provided by four green LEDs that illuminate when their respective outputs are active. Within the EtherCAT process image, the module occupies four output bits, allowing each channel to be addressed individually without additional configuration bytes.
The terminal provides four individually isolated output channels, and the signals are configured in project software with the TwinCAT System Manager. The housing snaps onto a 35 mm mounting rail, and its variable installation position supports flexible placement within the cabinet. Address switches are unnecessary because the EtherCAT master assigns logical addresses automatically. This automatic assignment eliminates the need to set mechanical addresses on the terminal before operation. The circuitry supports resistive, inductive, and lamp loads without additional suppression components. Power and communication travel through the E-Bus backplane, while the front indicators provide a clear view of channel activity during normal operation and system diagnostics.
