The EL1819-0000 is a digital input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff and included in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It collects discrete field signals and places them on the EtherCAT bus so a PLC can evaluate machine status in the same communication cycle that also serves motion and safety functions. The device supports decentralized control architectures by sharing supply and data over the integrated E-bus, which reduces panel wiring and allows compact node construction. Once snapped onto a DIN rail, it lines up mechanically with adjacent terminals to form application-specific I/O assemblies.

Its 16 channels each accept a nominal signal level of 24 VDC, making the terminal compatible with most industrial sensors. The module uses 1-wire wiring, which means the signal conductor returns through the common 0 V power contact that serves as the reference ground. Each channel draws only 3 mA when energized, satisfying the current limits stated in EN 61131-2 Type 1/3. Before a change of state is reported, a built-in 10 µs filter suppresses contact bounce and short signal spikes. Communication with the EtherCAT backplane requires only 100 mA of E-bus current, which helps determine the permitted terminal count on one segment.

From a mechanical standpoint, the housing is only 12 mm wide, allowing high channel density without enlarging the enclosure. The unit locks onto a 35 mm DIN rail with the standard spring mechanism used throughout the series, which keeps installation straightforward alongside neighboring terminals. Its plastic enclosure carries an IP20 rating, providing finger protection while requiring installation inside a control cabinet with controlled ambient conditions.
