The EL1144-0000 is a four-channel digital input terminal produced by Beckhoff in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The unit snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and forwards binary field signals to an EtherCAT controller for real-time processing. Designed for cabinet installation, it houses signal-conditioning electronics in a polycarbonate enclosure and lets discrete sensors and switches connect directly to the automation network without separate interface modules. Because it uses the EtherCAT terminal format, it fits directly into modular I/O assemblies where different signal types can be placed side by side on the same coupler.
Each channel is wired in the 2-/3-wire technique and is referenced to the supplied field potential of 12 V DC. Before the controller samples a channel, an internal hardware filter of 10 µs removes contact bounce so brief transients do not appear in the process image. The logic interprets a high state when the incoming voltage exceeds 8.5 V and resets the bit when it falls below 2.4 V, which helps prevent uncertain switching around the threshold. The input states are transferred to the PLC as a compact data word, keeping bus traffic low during fast cycles and allowing fast updates from connected field devices.
The terminal’s supply conductors are looped through power contacts that can carry up to 10 A, so downstream devices can share the same field supply path. Continuous operation is permitted in ambient humidity up to 95%. Mechanical dimensions are limited to a width of 12 mm, a height of 100 mm, and a depth of 68 mm, which allows dense side-by-side mounting in shallow control boxes. With a protection rating of IP20, the component is intended for installation inside a closed enclosure, and the DIN-rail latch allows quick attachment or removal while helping keep cabinet layouts compact.
