The EL1008-0000 input terminal is produced by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It is an eight-channel digital input device that translates 24 V DC field signals into the EtherCAT process image, enabling centralized PLCs to read remote sensors and push-buttons without additional gateways. Installed next to actuators or sensor banks, the terminal helps reduce cable length, simplify panel layouts, and maintain deterministic update cycles within distributed industrial automation architectures.

Its profile is only 12 mm wide, 100 mm high, and 68 mm deep, so multiple terminals can be lined up on limited rail space. The nominal supply is 24 V DC, matching common control-cabinet power buses and providing the reference for the eight opto-isolated channels. Each channel accepts an EN 61131-2 Type 1/3 compliant signal, and the module presents 8 discrete bits to the controller. A front shield and internal geometry grant an IP20 rating, allowing safe finger access while preventing foreign objects from reaching live conductors.
