Product Description:

The EL1004 digital input terminal is produced by Beckhoff as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Serving as a modular I/O node, it forwards four sensor states to the real-time EtherCAT bus so that a controller can react to limit switches, push buttons, or proximity devices without a centralized rack. The device mounts on a DIN rail inside an enclosed control cabinet, keeping distributed installations compact and electrically compatible with other Beckhoff terminals.

Each channel complies with the EN 61131-2 Type 3 input standard and accepts signals at a rated logic level of 24 V DC. An internal 3 ms input filter debounces mechanical contacts before their states enter the process image, which allocates one bit to each physical channel. The channel circuitry draws only 3 mA per input, limiting the field load and reducing heat generation inside the housing. Signals reach the terminal through 1-wire connection technology, providing a direct connection for each signal conductor while the shared power contacts distribute the reference potential. The housing spans only 12 mm along the rail, supporting dense installation with adjacent I/O terminals. Optically isolated input circuits present the binary states to the controller as a contiguous memory area, and EtherCAT communication updates that area during each bus cycle.

The terminal provides galvanic isolation of up to 500 V between the field side and the system electronics, protecting upstream circuitry from potential differences in sensor wiring. Its IP20 protection rating prevents finger contact with hazardous internal parts and blocks the entry of solid objects larger than the applicable test probe, making the terminal suitable for enclosed control panels. The housing has a depth of 68 mm, allowing it to align with compatible bus couplers and power terminals without requiring additional enclosure depth. Its height is 100 mm, which supports an orderly terminal row and consistent routing to the connection points. Status indicators provide a visual reference for the individual input states, while spring-loaded contacts connect the terminal to the EtherCAT station without separate internal bus wiring.
