The CX9020-0010 is an embedded PC controller manufactured by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed for DIN-rail mounting, the unit integrates CPU, memory, and communication interfaces into a single fanless housing that serves as the central PLC for remote EtherCAT or other fieldbus terminals. Industrial plants use the module to execute deterministic control programs, exchange data with supervisory networks, and drive operator panels without the need for a separate industrial PC.

Processing resources are anchored by a 1 GHz Arm Cortex-A8 processor that operates on a single core, supplying adequate throughput for medium-sized logic tasks while limiting energy demand. The main memory is 1 GB DDR3 RAM, which hosts the real-time operating system, application code, and variable tables, while 128 kB of NOVRAM preserves retain data during power loss. The device accepts a regulated 24 V DC supply and draws 2 A on its internal bus to feed attached I/O slices. Four host interfaces, provided as 4 x USB 2.0 ports, connect service keyboards, scanners, or wireless adapters. Two Ethernet controllers operate at 10/100 Mbit/s, allowing the CX9020 to link simultaneously to an automation network and an enterprise layer so machine traffic and general data exchange can remain separated.

Network wiring enters through 2 x RJ45 sockets, while a DVI-D output drives high-resolution operator displays. Removable storage is available through 2 microSD slots for boot images or data logging, which adds flexibility for local data handling without external media devices. Despite the onboard interfaces, the controller’s maximum power dissipation is only 5 W, which helps keep panel temperatures low during continuous operation. The aluminum housing measures 84 mm wide, 91 mm deep, and 100 mm high, and it carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for enclosed switchgear environments.
