The CX9010-1001 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It integrates control computing, fieldbus master functions, and local terminal expansion so that a machine can drive digital and analog I/O over the K-Bus rail without additional controllers. In an automation line, it serves as the main PLC, linking sensors, actuators, and supervisory networks while occupying minimal cabinet space.

The unit uses an Intel IXP420 XScale, 533 MHz processor to handle deterministic cyclic tasks and user programs. Application code and the real-time kernel reside in 32 MByte of flash, while process variables are buffered by 128 MByte of SDRAM for fast access. Two independent Ethernet ports provide 2 x RJ45, 10/100 MBit connectivity, allowing separate machine and plant networks. The logic section is powered from a single 24 VDC supply, and internal dissipation is limited to 6.5 W, which helps simplify thermal planning in sealed cabinets. Additional data retention is provided by 128 kByte of NOVRAM, and 4 kByte of dual-port RAM exchanges process images with the terminal bus. An I/O supply current of 2 A is available for attached K-Bus modules, and the lack of a DVI or USB interface keeps the housing compact.

The housing measures 59 × 100 × 91 mm, which supports high-density mounting alongside I/O slices. Boards are isolated from field wiring by a dielectric strength of 500 Vrms, and the electronics have an IP20 rating for use in clean electrical enclosures. The unit boots Microsoft Windows CE, under which TwinCAT PLC Runtime executes IEC 61131-3 tasks with millisecond scan times. A maximum power loss of 6.5 W combined with convection cooling removes the need for fans. The K-Bus backplane also supports hot-plug capability for additional terminal channels without requiring a reboot.
