The CX9010-0102 embedded PC is produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It serves as a DIN-rail PLC and motion controller that integrates directly with EtherCAT I/O to coordinate drives, valves, and sensors across automated machines. By combining computing resources, fieldbus interfaces, and onboard storage in one compact housing, the device simplifies control-cabinet layouts and supports decentralized real-time execution in manufacturing cells. This arrangement keeps control logic, communication, and local expansion close to the machine process.

The unit employs a 533 MHz Intel IXP420 network-centric processor that executes TwinCAT PLC + NC PTP tasks without an additional host PC. A 128 MB SDRAM module accommodates active variables, and a separate 32 MB Flash chip holds the operating system and user project, reducing wear compared with rotating media. Two Ethernet controllers presented on 2 × RJ45 jacks provide independent 10/100-Mbit channels that can be bridged for line topology or isolated for diagnostics. The E-bus backplane offers direct connection of EtherCAT terminals, and the internal I/O supply can source 2 A to the attached slices. Retentive data are secured by 128 kB of NOVRAM, while the integrated TwinCAT license enables interpolated point-to-point positioning. Two USB 2.0 ports each supply 100 mA for service sticks or human-interface devices.

A single 24 V DC input feeds the CPU and terminal stack; internal converters restrict dissipated heat to a maximum of 6.5 W, allowing fanless operation in compact panels. For visualization, the graphics controller exposes a DVI-I 29-pin connector that drives digital or analog monitors up to XGA resolution. The housing meets the IP20 protection class, so it must be mounted inside an enclosure but requires no additional sealing. USB load, Ethernet activity, and E-bus current remain within limits under full-cycle operation, preserving signal integrity and preventing supply dips on rapidly switching field devices.
