The CX9010-0101 is an embedded PC controller manufactured by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It combines a 24 VDC supply slice with an E-Bus backplane so that EtherCAT terminals dock directly to the CPU segment. In machine cells the device acts as a PLC, motion coordinator, and field-bus gateway, delivering deterministic control where a full industrial PC is impractical. Its firmware includes the TwinCAT-CE-PLC-Runtime for executing IEC 61131-3 tasks under Windows CE.

At the core of the unit is an Intel IXP420 processor running at 533 MHz; this ARM-based chip supports hard real-time PLC cycles. The CPU pairs with 128 MByte of SDRAM for dynamic data and a 32 MByte flash device that holds the OS and user program after power loss. A 128 kByte NOVRAM safeguards retentive variables.
