The CX9010-0001 is an embedded PC controller produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed to mount directly on a DIN rail beside I/O terminals, it acts as the central processing unit for compact machine or building automation stations, executing logic, communication, and data logging tasks in real time. Two independent 10/100 Mbit/s controllers support redundancy or network segmentation, and the TwinCAT PLC runtime is pre-installed so IEC 61131-3 programs can be loaded immediately.

The computing core is an Intel IXP420 network-centric processor that operates at 533 MHz, giving the controller enough throughput for medium-sized PLC programs and fieldbus handling. A soldered 128 MByte SDRAM module provides volatile working memory for code execution, while the on-board 32 MByte flash stores the operating system, TwinCAT project, and user files without rotating media. Non-volatile process data such as counters or recipes can be buffered in the integrated 128 kByte NOVRAM that survives power loss without a battery. No DVI or USB ports are present, so visualization and service connections are made through Ethernet alone.

The unit accepts a 24 V DC supply and dissipates only 6.5 W under typical load, minimizing cabinet heat. Its aluminum housing measures 59 x 100 x 91 mm, conserving space on dense DIN rails while withstanding a dielectric strength of 500 Vrms between power and signal domains. Field wiring enters through the integrated E-Bus coupler, allowing hot-pluggable EtherCAT terminals to draw a shared I/O terminal current of 2 A. Network cabling is connected through 2 x RJ45 sockets, and each port auto-negotiates 10 or 100 Mbit/s so separate machine and supervisory networks can be isolated.
