The CX9000-0001 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. As a DIN-rail controller, it combines processor, memory, and communication interfaces to serve as the central PLC in distributed industrial automation cells. The device hosts I/O slices from the same manufacturer along its right side, allowing it to coordinate motion, process control, and data logging tasks on factory floors. This arrangement keeps the controller and connected terminals in one compact rail-mounted assembly.

Its computing core is an Intel IXP420 XScale, 266 MHz processor that executes the pre-installed TwinCAT CE PLC Runtime. Program variables are held in 64 MB RAM, while a 16 MB flash memory stores the operating system and application code; an additional 128 kB NOVRAM secures retentive data during power cycles. For networking, the controller offers 2 x RJ45, 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet ports, which can be configured for separate machine and plant networks. Local expansion is achieved through the E-bus fieldbus interface, allowing the unit to address digital, analog, and motion terminals without external gateways. The module accepts a 24 V DC supply and may draw up to 2 A from the terminal bus. Eliminating DVI or USB ports reduces signal clutter in control cabinets.

During continuous logic execution, the embedded PC dissipates a maximum of 6 W, allowing passive cooling inside cramped panels. A dielectric strength of 500 Vrms insulates the low-voltage circuitry from adjacent power stages, and the housing meets IP 20 so that only basic enclosure shielding is required. Its compact footprint of 59 × 100 × 91 mm permits direct mounting next to terminal blocks, keeping signal paths short for the E-bus chain. Control software resident in TwinCAT CE PLC Runtime allows the CX9000-0001 to exchange data between field I/O and Ethernet-based supervisory systems without requiring an external PC.
