The CX5140-0160 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. This fanless controller mounts on a DIN rail and combines processing, fieldbus interfaces, and power conditioning in one housing, allowing it to run PLC logic, motion control, and visualization tasks directly inside automated equipment. By integrating with EtherCAT and other bus terminals, it streamlines cabinet layouts and shortens signal paths in production lines.
Computation is handled by an Intel Atom E3845 processor that operates at 1.91 GHz. Its four physical cores provide separate execution threads for control loops, communication, and HMI services. The system carries 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, while 256 MB of graphics memory supports local displays without reducing application memory. A CFast slot and an additional microSD slot provide removable image storage for backups or software updates. For networking, 2 × RJ45 Gigabit ports permit switched or line-topology connections. Service tools or sensors can connect through 4 × USB 2.0 ports rated at 500 mA each.
