The CX5140-0130 / 4GB is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed for cabinet-mounted industrial automation tasks, it integrates computing, fieldbus, and display interfaces so machine or line control can be executed directly on the controller without an external IPC. In packing, material handling, or process cells it acts as the deterministic brain that coordinates I/O, motion, and visualization.

The computing core is an Intel Atom E3845 quad-core processor clocked at 1.91 GHz. Its 4 logical and physical cores allow the PLC, HMI, and motion tasks to be distributed without time-slice conflicts. Working data are buffered in 4 GB DDR3-RAM, and frame buffers draw from 256 MB of shared graphics memory. When a DVI-I monitor is connected the integrated controller drives resolutions up to 1920 x 1200, so a single panel can present production statistics or diagnostics at full HD quality.

For field and supervisory networks the PC offers 2 x RJ45 ports that negotiate 10/100/1000 Mbit/s links, enabling separate control and service lines. Typical energy draw is 16 W, and the electronics tolerate input ripple as long as the supply remains at 24 V DC; a UPS can be added, raising peak demand to 23 W during backup switching. The fanless aluminum housing measures 142 × 100 × 92 mm and withstands a dielectric test of 500 V between power and signal circuits. Mass is 1095 g, facilitating DIN-rail installation without additional supports. Four USB 2.0 sockets simplify expansion with service keys or wireless adapters, while the internal CFast slot accepts cards down to 40 GB for operating system and user data. Beckhoff ships the unit without a TwinCAT runtime so integrators can load exactly the version or alternative software stack required for the target machine.
