The CX5140-011 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Mounted on a DIN rail, this device operates as the central controller in industrial automation, running PLC logic, user interfaces, and fieldbus routing inside packaging lines, material-handling stations, and process skids. By integrating processing, memory, and communication ports into one enclosure, it replaces separate controllers and gateways, which reduces cabinet space and simplifies wiring during machine assembly.

Its computing platform is based on an Intel Atom E3845, 1.91 GHz processor. This fanless x86 CPU provides enough clock speed for deterministic control while maintaining low thermal output for passive cooling. The quad-core architecture gives the unit 4 parallel execution paths, which is useful when the PLC, visualization, and data logging must run concurrently. System data reside in 4 GB DDR3 RAM, so sizable code, variables, and trend buffers can be held in main memory without paging delays. Typical controller consumption peaks at 16 W, which limits power-supply loading and internal panel temperature.
