The CX5130-0185 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed to combine PLC, motion, and HMI duties in a DIN-rail form factor, the unit operates as the central controller in decentralized industrial automation cells. By integrating Intel-based processing with industrial I/O interfaces, the device replaces separate panel PCs and PLC racks while supporting direct deployment of deterministic TwinCAT 3 Runtime applications on a compact platform. This layout helps reduce panel space and keeps control, visualization, and machine communication in one housing.
The unit runs on an Intel Atom E3827, 1.75 GHz processor with 2 CPU cores. Its fixed 4 GB DDR3 RAM works with a CFast slot and a microSD slot, and at least 20 GB of CFast media is required for system and user data. Two gigabit interfaces provided through 2 x RJ45 ports support real-time EtherCAT or standard TCP/IP networking, while four front-mounted USB 2.0 ports connect service tools, HMI panels, or backup drives. TwinCAT 3 Runtime (XAR) runs on the TwinCAT/BSD operating system, giving deterministic control loops and support for high-level languages. A single DVI-I connector supplies video to local monitors, and the housing measures 142 × 100 × 92 mm for side-by-side mounting with Beckhoff I/O slices.
For power integration, the controller accepts a 24 V DC supply and typically draws up to 14 W under full load.
