The CX5130-0141 is an embedded PC controller produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It combines a compact form factor with industrial-grade components to execute deterministic control logic, motion tasks, and HMI functions directly at the machine level. By running PLC software locally, the unit removes the need for a separate rack controller and enables distributed automation architectures on EtherCAT or standard Ethernet networks.
Processing is handled by an Intel Atom E3827 dual-core CPU that operates at 1.75 GHz. Its multicore architecture allows the runtime to separate cyclic control from background services without introducing jitter. A main memory pool of 4 GB DDR3 RAM stores real-time variables, program code, and operating system data, while 256 MB of shared graphics memory supports local visualization over DVI or DisplayPort adapters. The integrated TwinCAT 2 PLC Runtime executes IEC 61131-3 languages, allowing existing Beckhoff projects to be transferred without recompilation. Mass storage is handled through a CFast slot for the operating image and a MicroSD slot for recipe or log files. Two Gigabit Ethernet controllers support line rates of 10, 100, or 1,000 Mbit/s, providing deterministic fieldbus timing or standard TCP/IP traffic as required.
The controller draws a maximum of 14 W from a nominal 24 V DC supply, so power wiring can share the same low-voltage rail as the I/O terminals. Peripheral devices such as scanners or service laptops connect to four USB 2.0 receptacles, each of which can supply up to 500 mA. Galvanic isolation between system and field wiring is supported by a dielectric strength of 500 V. The aluminum housing measures 142 mm × 100 mm × 92 mm, allowing installation on DIN rail segments inside shallow control cabinets. This compact enclosure helps conserve cabinet space while keeping the network, storage, and peripheral connections accessible.
