The CX5130-0140 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed for DIN-rail mounting inside control cabinets, the unit acts as the central automation controller, bringing PLC logic, motion control, and HMI tasks onto one compact x86 platform. By consolidating user software and fieldbus interfaces in a single housing, it simplifies machine architectures that previously needed separate industrial PCs and dedicated hardware controllers.
The computing section is built around an Intel Atom E3827 processor running at 1.75 GHz. With 2 processing cores, the controller can execute deterministic motion tasks while still handling standard Ethernet traffic. System memory is sized at 4 GB DDR3 RAM, supporting sizable TwinCAT projects, while PLC functionality requires appropriate runtime licensing. Maximum power draw is limited to 14 W, enabling fanless operation and modest thermal loading inside the control cabinet. The internal insulation withstands a dielectric test voltage of 500 V, providing protection against transient field voltages that may arise on distributed I/O wiring.
Field connectivity is provided by 2 × RJ45 Ethernet ports supporting 10/100/1000 Mbit/s for EtherCAT or standard TCP/IP communication. The module also has 4 × USB 2.0 Type A host interfaces rated at 500 mA for connecting local peripherals or service tools. Removable storage is available through a CFast slot and a MicroSD slot, while the internal UPS buffer preserves 1 MB of data on the CFast card for one second during a power loss. An integrated GPU with 256 MB of shared memory and a 792 MHz burst clock drives DVI-I displays at resolutions up to 1920 × 1200 pixels. The housing has an IP20 protection rating for use inside control cabinets, protecting against contact with hazardous internal components and entry by larger solid objects.
