The CX5130-0115 embedded PC is produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. This fanless controller combines CPU, memory, and fieldbus connectivity in a DIN-rail housing so it can serve as a compact PLC, HMI host, or data gateway inside machine panels. By running Beckhoff’s TwinCAT runtime and attaching to EtherCAT or other bus terminals, it executes deterministic logic, motion control, and process visualization tasks directly on the factory floor.
The computing platform is driven by an Intel Atom E3827, 1.75 GHz processor, and its 2 logical cores allow separate real-time and background threads to run without contention. An integrated 4 GB DDR3 RAM bank holds the operating system, TwinCAT task data, and buffer logs. For deterministic networking, the front panel offers 2 × RJ45 interfaces operating at 1 Gbit/s; one port can form an EtherCAT master ring while the other links to plant Ethernet. The controller has four USB 2.0 ports rated at 500 mA each, which support service drives or barcode scanners without an external hub. Removable CFast and microSD slots provide flash media for recipe storage or operating-system recovery images. The unit budgets 10 W of bus power for attached I/O slices and can supply up to 2 A through the terminal backplane, eliminating the need for separate field-supply modules.
The controller is fed from a 24 V DC rail and draws up to 14 W during normal operation; when the optional capacitor-based UPS is fitted, consumption can rise to 20 W to cover the charging current. The UPS keeps 1 MB of volatile data available for one second so machine counters can be preserved during a mains power interruption. Internal circuits have a dielectric strength of 500 V, protecting signal levels against grounding faults. The enclosure measures 142 × 100 × 92 mm, allowing it to fit in shallow cabinets while leaving room for side-mounted heat spreaders. Cooling is passive, so there are no fans to maintain. The DIN-rail enclosure also allows the controller to be installed alongside compatible I/O terminals without requiring a separate mounting shelf.
