This DIN-rail computer combines an Intel Atom CPU with fieldbus and I/O interfaces so it can execute PLC logic, motion control, and visualization tasks directly in a control cabinet. By hosting TwinCAT engineering software, the unit replaces separate rack PCs and dedicated controllers, consolidating machine sequencing and real-time axis coordination in one compact device.
An Intel Atom E3827 runs at 1.75 GHz and provides two processing cores that handle the TwinCAT multitasking scheduler. Application variables reside in 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, while graphics for local HMIs share 256 MB of that memory. Two Gigabit ports, configured as 2 × RJ45 ports supporting 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, accommodate EtherCAT or standard Ethernet networking without add-on cards. Maximum internal power demand stays below 14 W, which simplifies cabinet thermal planning and permits passive convection in many installations. System cooling is aided by low-voltage operation because the processor draws power from DC rails rather than stepped-down mains.
