The CX5120-0155 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It hosts PLC logic, HMI services, and fieldbus gateways inside a control cabinet. By combining an x86 processor, local I/O terminals, and storage interfaces in one DIN-rail package, the unit provides centralized machine control for applications that require deterministic sequencing and real-time communication. Its compact format allows processing and I/O components to be installed together without occupying a large section of the control cabinet.
A single Intel Atom E3815 processor running at 1.46 GHz executes the operating system and TwinCAT runtime on one physical core, providing predictable cycle times for modest task loads. System data reside in 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, while screen buffers use 256 MB of shared graphics memory for local display output. Program and recipe files are written to a CFast or MicroSD card inserted into the two flash slots, providing solid-state storage without rotating media. Control electronics receive power from a 24 V DC supply, and an integrated UPS bridges supply interruptions for one second so variables and log files can be closed safely. Overall power consumption remains below 11 W, allowing passive convection cooling and dense cabinet layouts without additional fans. The electrical insulation provides dielectric strength up to 500 V, helping isolate the low-voltage circuitry from external transients.
Field connectivity is provided by two RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet ports that support EtherCAT, TCP/IP, or redundant networking. The unit also includes four USB 2.0 ports rated at 500 mA each for service adapters, touchscreens, or data storage devices. The aluminum housing measures 122 × 100 × 92 mm and matches the height of Beckhoff terminal blocks, allowing the components to align evenly on the DIN rail.
