The CX5020-1112 is an embedded PC module developed by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed for DIN-rail installation, the unit combines CPU processing, fieldbus master capabilities, and industrial I/O interaction in a single package. Within an automation cell, the device operates as the central PLC and motion controller, running deterministic tasks, collecting process signals, and forwarding results to higher-level networks without requiring a separate industrial computer.
At its core, the module uses an Intel Atom Z530 processor with a fixed clock speed of 1.6 GHz, providing adequate real-time processing capacity for logic and axis interpolation. The board carries 512 MB of RAM for variables and buffering, while the application code and operating system reside on a 128 MB CompactFlash card. Standard communication is available through two RJ45 ports, one DVI-D port, and four USB 2.0 ports, enabling direct Ethernet, display, and service connections. A K-bus backplane couples the controller to modular terminals, and 2 A of I/O current is available for attached sensors or actuators. TwinCAT 2 PLC Runtime and NC PTP Runtime provide IEC 61131-3 logic execution and point-to-point motion control. The supply-to-ground path withstands 500 Veff, providing dielectric isolation between the internal circuits and the shielded mounting plate.
