The CX5020-0100 embedded PC is manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. This fanless unit integrates an Intel Atom Z530 processor and houses the system electronics within an aluminum enclosure that is 106 mm wide, 100 mm high, and 92 mm deep. Installed on a DIN rail inside a control cabinet, it functions as a compact PLC and motion controller that operates fieldbus nodes and local HMI panels across automated production lines.
Its processor core operates at 1.6 GHz, providing consistent cycle times for typical PLC tasks. The system board provides 512 MB of RAM for code execution and variable storage, while a 128 MB CompactFlash card holds the operating system and user programs in nonvolatile storage. Two onboard Ethernet controllers provide two RJ45 ports that operate at 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, enabling communication with supervisory SCADA networks and remote I/O. An internal E-Bus interface permits direct connection of Beckhoff terminal slices without additional gateways. The permitted I/O backplane current draw is 2 A, which supports numerous signal terminals. High-power actuator terminals may require an auxiliary feed when their combined loads exceed the available backplane current.
A single 24 V DC supply powers the logic and attached terminals, simplifying field installation. The maximum power loss is limited to 12.5 W, which helps reduce heat accumulation inside the control cabinet. The front panel provides four USB 2.0 ports for keyboards, touchscreens, or service storage devices. A dedicated graphics controller connects to display panels through one DVI-D port and supports 24-bit color output at resolutions up to SXGA. The dielectric strength between the supply and housing is 500 V RMS, providing electrical isolation during operation. The rigid enclosure tolerates industrial vibration while retaining the 92 mm depth required for installation in shallow electrical enclosures.
