The CX5010-1125 is an embedded PC module from Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. This device combines an industrial CPU, fieldbus interfaces, and local I/O terminals in a DIN-rail package, acting as a compact controller for PLC, motion, and visualization tasks on the factory floor. When installed at a machine, it replaces separate PLC hardware and supervisory computers, simplifying panel wiring and enabling deterministic program execution under the manufacturer’s real-time environment.
Processing power is provided by a 1.1 GHz single-core Intel Atom CPU, specifically an Intel Atom Z510. With one CPU core, the unit executes deterministic PLC cycles while keeping thermal load low. Program code and variable data reside in 512 MB RAM, which is sufficient for medium-sized motion or HMI projects. Two independent Gigabit controllers provide networking through 2 x RJ45, 10/100/1000 Mbit/s ports, allowing separate machine and plant networks or redundant links. The unit has 4 x USB 2.0 front-mounted ports for service keyboards, mass storage, or wireless adapters, and a single DVI-D output drives a local operator panel. The controller includes TwinCAT 3 Runtime (XAR), so deterministic IEC 61131-3 tasks and high-level C++ modules can run side by side.
Field wiring is handled through the K-bus terminal connection, and the internal backplane supplies 2 A to attached I/O slices, eliminating separate feed modules. The electronics draw up to 12 W and accept a nominal supply of 24 V DC, so the unit can share power with sensors and actuators in standard control cabinets. Dielectric strength of 500 Veff isolates the logic from incoming power rails.
