The Beckhoff Embedded PC CX Series, model CX5010-1115 has integrated on its motherboard the Intel Atom® Z510 processor that has a clock speed of 1.1GHz. It is characterized by a single core that can be used in a range of industrial solutions due to the optimal balance between performance and energy consumption.
This model incorporates a slot for a Compact Flash card with a built-in 128 MB card that can be upgradeable to meet larger storage needs. The CX5010-1115 of the main memory has a capacity of 512 MB of RAM. Although it can not be expanded, the memory is well-tuned to the operating systems that are available on the device and these include the Windows Embedded CE 6 and the Windows Embedded Standard 2009. These systems are backed by the TwinCAT 2 and TwinCAT 3 XAR runtime controls for comprehensive and flexible programming and control of intricate automation tasks. Communications options are rich and feature two RJ45 sockets for 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet networking, one DVI-D socket for digital display output, and four USB 2.0 sockets for inputs/outputs. An extra interface port is provided to enable the device to be configured according to the desired connection. The cooling system is passive to increase the service life of the unit and decrease mechanical stress by reducing the temperature of the unit. This device is well equipped with diagnostics with power LED, TC status LED, flash access LED, and bus status LED for ease of testing and maintenance.
The embedded PC also has a standard AT-style internal battery-backed clock for time and date, with easy battery replacement. For I/O connections, it has two options for connection: E-bus and K-bus, and it will automatically detect which one is connected, making it easy to install or expand. It has an input voltage of 24 volts DC that can operate within a range of -15% to +20% and has a power consumption of only 12 watts, which makes it suitable for use in the demanding industrial environment.
