The CX5010-0111-1001 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed for DIN rail installation beside Beckhoff I/O terminals, the controller combines processing, fieldbus communication, and visualization functions in one compact housing. In industrial automation, it serves as a deterministic PLC and motion platform that links real-time field devices to higher-level Ethernet networks without requiring a separate rack-mounted computer.
Electrical power is supplied at 24 V DC, and internal electronics support an Intel Atom Z510 at 1.1 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM. Program storage is provided on a removable 128 MB Compact Flash card, which allows image updates without opening a separate computer enclosure. Two RJ45 ports operate at 10/100/1000 Mbit/s for machine and plant network connections, while local expansion is provided through 4 × USB 2.0 connectors for service media, barcode scanners, or additional interfaces. The embedded PC also connects directly to the E-Bus terminal chain, can supply up to 2 A to that backplane, provides 500 Veff dielectric strength against supply disturbances, carries an IP20 protection class, and includes a DVI-D output for a remote display.
During operation, the controller dissipates only 12 W, which supports fanless cooling in compact control cabinets. Control software comes installed as TwinCAT 2 PLC Runtime under Windows Embedded CE 6, allowing deterministic task scheduling without a full desktop operating system. If the input rail drops briefly, the integrated UPS capacitor maintains logic for 1 s, giving the runtime time to retain variables and write log data to flash memory. This arrangement suits packaging equipment, handling systems, and light process machines that need compact control hardware with integrated communication and display support.
