The CX2900-0192 module belongs to the CX Embedded PC Systems series produced by Beckhoff. It functions as an auxiliary power and interface component that attaches directly to a CX CPU, supplying maintained 24 V power and providing a short-range Ethernet link for on-panel diagnostics. Within an automation cabinet, the unit helps keep the embedded PC responsive during brief supply dips and simplifies point-to-point communication with drives, I/O couplers, or programming laptops.

The data interface is the X102 port, wired through an RJ45 Ethernet, Cat-5 cable. The internal PHY supports the standard four-pair topology, so the connector expects 4 balanced wire pairs for full duplex signaling. Cable assemblies may not exceed 5 m because the link is intended only for the local switch or service notebook positioned near the controller. Automatic MDI-X negotiation is disabled; therefore, crossover cables are not supported and a straight-through patch lead must be used. For system availability, the module carries an auxiliary buffer of 48 W, allowing the CX CPU to finish program cycles or store process data when the primary 24 V rail collapses.

Power wiring is connected on the X101 BAT terminal strip. Three conductors, +24 V/0 V/Earth, are required, and the minimum copper cross-section is 1.5 mm² to keep voltage drop within controller limits. An inline fuse with a clearing rating of 10 A ff must be installed to protect the wiring against short circuits and to isolate the backup source during maintenance. These parameters define the admissible load current and determine how long the buffered supply can sustain the embedded PC when the field supply disappears.
