The CX Embedded PC Systems series relies on removable storage cards for operating system images, application code, and real-time process data. The CX2900-0030 is one such card supplied for use with compatible Beckhoff automation controllers. As an industrial memory module, it fits into the dedicated CFast slot of a CX controller and provides solid-state storage that can tolerate the vibration commonly present in machinery cabinets.

Its card grade is Industrial, which means the PCB, connectors, and components are intended for continuous duty in electrically noisy plant environments. The medium follows the CFast standard, combining a Serial ATA interface with a compact 7 + 17-pin connector for quick replacement without tools. Inside, a capacity of 8 GB is available for TwinCAT runtime files, Windows Embedded operating system data, and user archives. Program code and log files are stored in SLC flash cells, and the Non-Volatile storage keeps data available after either a controlled shutdown or an unexpected power loss.

The module is mechanically keyed for the CX20x0 platform, so the card seats on the system board at the correct depth and alignment. A spring-loaded Push/Push eject mechanism allows the card to latch on insertion and release with a second press, which helps limit contact with the connector area during service. Temperature capability reaches an Extended (+85 °C) rating, allowing operation in fanless cabinets installed near heat-generating equipment. The card also supports secure boot configurations so the controller can verify the storage media before executing user programs.
