The CX2550-0020 storage module is produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It adds a removable 2.5-inch drive bay and a SATA path so that a CX controller can host operating systems, application data, and recovery files locally. By drawing power and signals from the system bus, the unit integrates into a DIN-rail stack without additional cabling, extending PC functionality inside control cabinets. This arrangement keeps mass storage inside the controller assembly instead of relying on external media. The added bay is useful when the application needs more local capacity than flash-based controller storage can provide.

Its host interface is the high-bandwidth PCI Express lane supplied on the CX CPU. Physical insertion is performed through a 2.5-inch slot, allowing standard laptop-grade drives up to 9.5 mm thick to slide into the carrier. Once seated, the drive couples to the internal SATA 6G port so that transfer rates of 6 Gb/s are available for real-time logging or large program images. For extended downtime or shipping, the storage envelope broadens to -40 °C to 85 °C, which helps protect the installed drive from thermal shock.
