The CX2500-M510 fieldbus module is supplied by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It plugs onto a CX CPU to give the controller a CANopen channel for exchanging process data with distributed devices. In an automation project it serves as the interface that translates internal tasks from the embedded PC into the serial CAN frames required for deterministic I/O updates. Adding this module lets an engineer implement high-speed motion sequences without dedicating separate PLC hardware.
The module assumes the bus role of Master, giving the PC authority to manage node boot-up, state changes, and synchronous PDO traffic. The physical connection is realized through a single D-Sub Connector with a pin count of 9; pin 7 carries CAN High, pin 2 routes CAN Low, and pins 3 and 6 provide ground reference. An integrated shield on pin 5 minimizes common-mode noise, while pins 1, 4, 8, and 9 remain unused for additional isolation.
