Product Description:

The CX2500-M510 fieldbus module is supplied by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It plugs onto a CX CPU to give the controller a CANopen channel for exchanging process data with distributed devices. In an automation project it serves as the interface that translates internal tasks from the embedded PC into the serial CAN frames required for deterministic I/O updates. Adding this module lets an engineer implement high-speed motion sequences without dedicating separate PLC hardware.

The module assumes the bus role of Master, giving the PC authority to manage node boot-up, state changes, and synchronous PDO traffic. The physical connection is realized through a single D-Sub Connector with a pin count of 9; pin 7 carries CAN High, pin 2 routes CAN Low, and pins 3 and 6 provide ground reference. An integrated shield on pin 5 minimizes common-mode noise, while pins 1, 4, 8, and 9 remain unused for additional isolation. Communication speed is selectable from 10 kbaud up to 1,000 kbaud, enabling reliable signaling over both long and short cable runs. The transport layer complies with CANopen, allowing standardized object dictionary handling, heartbeat supervision, and emergency messaging in mixed-vendor systems.

The CX2500-M510 is classified as a fieldbus module and installs on the controller’s Left side, keeping the overall system width unchanged when several interfaces are added. Firmware in the embedded PC can enumerate up to 4 of these modules per CPU, so parallel CAN segments may operate with independent baud rates. Network wiring remains orderly because the design exposes only a single port, reflected in a connector count of 1. The specified shield pin, dedicated grounds, and reserved contacts work with the housing to maintain electromagnetic compatibility without external adapters.
