The CX2100-0004 is a power supply and terminal interface module produced by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It energizes the embedded PC and attached I/O slices and routes field wiring to the shared terminal bus. By combining the supply section, display, and connectors in one housing, the unit saves panel space for machine controllers and process stations. Mounted directly to the left of a CX CPU, it maintains uninterrupted communication with K-bus and E-bus terminals used for local signal acquisition.

It accepts an input of 24 V DC and converts that feed into internal logic and peripheral rails while limiting overall consumption to 45 W. The internal backplane delivers up to 2 A for the I/O terminal supply, which is sufficient for typical sensor loads without auxiliary power packs. Separate spring-loaded power contacts can carry up to 10 A for field loads, so actuators with moderate current demand can be switched directly through downstream terminals. For process data, each K-bus slice exchanges up to 2048 bytes in both directions, giving the CPU ample cyclic bandwidth for mixed signal types.

Automatic bus detection simplifies installation; during power-up the module performs automatic bus switchover between K-bus and E-bus so no jumper changes are required when terminal types vary. When an E-bus string is detected, the system can expand to 65534 terminals, whereas a classic K-bus segment is limited to 64 terminals. All cyclic data are presented to the TwinCAT control interface, allowing deterministic task scheduling without additional fieldbus couplers. Operators can view status through the illuminated anti-glare LC display, which presents two lines of 16 characters, while the dual-row terminal bus provides clearly labeled supply and signal contacts for easier wiring.
