The CX2040-0125 is an embedded PC produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Built as a DIN-rail controller, the unit combines PLC, motion, and visualization tasks for industrial automation without the footprint of a traditional cabinet computer. Its design lets machine builders place centralized computing, fieldbus gateways, and data logging in one compact housing next to I/O terminals.

The processing section is anchored by an Intel Core i7 2715QE that exposes four physical cores clocked at 2.1 GHz. This CPU runs the Windows Embedded Standard 7 P 64-bit host while the TwinCAT 3 XAR control layer executes in a parallel real-time context. A memory bank of 4 GB DDR3-RAM accommodates code, visualization assets, and cached process data, and a 128 kB NOVRAM secures remanent variables against power loss. Integrated HD graphics operate at a base clock of 650 MHz and allocate 128 MB of shared memory for local displays. On the network side, the PC presents two Ethernet ports through 2 x RJ45 connectors that negotiate at 10/100/1000 MBit/s, allowing the controller to act as an I/O or diagnostics gateway without extra switches.
