The CX2030-0142 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed for cabinet installation next to I/O terminals, the device combines central processing, fieldbus communication, and control software into a single DIN-rail unit that replaces separate PLC and industrial PC hardware in automation cells. Its integrated design reduces the number of individual control components required in the cabinet while providing computing resources for real-time automation tasks. The module can operate as the central controller for connected terminals, network devices, and motion equipment.
The computing section is driven by an Intel Core i7 2610UE processor running at 1.5 GHz. Its dual-core architecture allocates logic scans to two independent cores for deterministic multitasking. A main memory capacity of 2 GB DDR3-RAM stores the real-time operating system and user programs, while 128 MB of shared graphics memory supports local HMI panels without a discrete graphics processor. Under full computational load, electrical demand does not exceed 27 W, allowing passive cooling inside low-power control cabinets. Persistent process variables survive reboots in a 128 kB NOVRAM block. The aluminum housing withstands a dielectric strength of 500 V between the supply and ground, helping isolate the logic circuits from electrical noise in the plant power system.
Field wiring is simplified by a 24 V DC supply input and integrated networking. The module provides two RJ45 Gigabit LAN ports for EtherCAT or standard Ethernet topologies. It also includes four USB 2.0 sockets for service keys, touchscreens, or data loggers. Motion control is handled by the preinstalled TwinCAT 2 NC-PTP Runtime, allowing axis parameters and point-to-point motion functions to operate directly on the controller. The compact frame measures 144 mm in width, 91 mm in depth, and 99 mm in height, providing a rectangular profile that fits between terminal strips. This format supports installation on a DIN rail alongside the connected automation terminals without requiring a separate industrial computer enclosure.
